Subject: Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update
To: Residents, Families, and Staff:
Today, Governor Holcomb issued a “stay at home” Executive Order effective statewide. He also stated, “The next two weeks are critical if we are to slow the spread of COVID-19, and we must slow the spread. You must be part of the solution, not the problem.” This means traveling outside of your home for tasks essential to the health and safety of family and pets ONLY. We must stop the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). The infection rate and death rate continues to climb in the state and country. The virus is present in Delaware County.
As we know, those persons over 60 years old are of greatest risk to this deadly virus. That is why we MUST STRONGLY DISCOURAGE all Residents from leaving the building for any reason. That includes meeting your loved ones in the parking lot or car; going for a drive with them; or going out for anything other than what is absolutely necessary; i.e. essential medical appointments.
At this time, a Voluntary Leave of Absence (VLOA) is also STRONGLY DISCOURAGED for any length of time. If you chose to take a VLOA, and the facility or Medical Director feels that you would pose a threat to the community upon returning, we would have the authority to discharge immediately without a 30 day Transfer/Discharge Notification. If Westminster permits you to return to the facility after a VLOA, you will be required to follow isolation and containment protocols. These are measures that Westminster Village are required to take. Your health and safety, and the health and safety of your neighbors, fellow residents, and our staff is of utmost importance to us. We hope that you will heed this guidance to protect yourself and others during this critical time.
In these uncertain times, we are having to make difficult decisions regarding health and safety. At this time, we ask that you take a heartfelt look, and make certain that your affairs are in order, and that your wishes and decisions are known to your family and the facility. Per Delaware County Coroner directions, we have been asked to remind residents to choose their funeral home and to be proactive in the event a serious situation occurs, i.e. an untimely passing. The process of handling the passing of a resident has been placed under stringent protocol and final decisions must be made.
Effective March 24th, 2020 only end of life/Hospice families; Visiting Health Care Professionals (Physicians; lab; x-ray) and Employees will be allowed to enter the building. Due to these visitation restrictions, if you or your loved one is currently receiving assistive services that family members or others from outside the building are providing, we ask that you alert the nurse on your unit so that we may perform these tasks. If you feel that you have an essential medical appointment, it is imperative that you contact that office to verify your appointment prior to leaving the building. We are enclosing our family circle around Westminster in an attempt to protect those that we care for and serve.
We thank you for your trust in Westminster Village and hope that you know we are doing everything that we can to continue life as normally as possible within the guidelines set forth to us by our governing bodies. We will continue to monitor and keep you informed of the ever changing directives. We thank you for your anticipated cooperation during this period.
