The Muncie Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is celebrating 70 years in the Muncie community this season. A non-profit organization founded in 1948, the MSO strives to enrich quality of life in Muncie through live orchestral performances and education outreach. The MSO is sustained by steadfast partnerships with foundations and businesses, and loyal generous support from individuals. Local professionals, BSU faculty and talented music students make up a portion of the musicians in the orchestra. Others are recruited from the community and other areas outside of Delaware County. Today’s orchestra is made up of professionals who also have “day jobs” as farmers, teachers, EMTs, and executive directors. As an organization that celebrates the cultural vibrancy of East Central Indiana, the MSO presents classical and pops concerts, chamber concerts, and free community engagement programs, to cultivate enduring community partnerships.
